If you’re unfamiliar with orthodontics, you may not be sure what to expect from the weeks and months ahead, but we’re here to help!

Your orthodontic consultation is one of the most important visits you’ll have with us, after all! It gives us a chance to meet and get to know each other a little better, examine your oral health, and discuss any concerns you have about your smile.

Getting things off on the right foot
Whether you schedule an appointment with our San Antonio or Windcrest office, you’ll be greeted warmly as soon as you walk through the door. We’ll introduce you to some of our team, then give you a brief tour of the office to help you feel comfortable with your surroundings. After looking over your medical and dental history, we’ll take a few digital photographs for our records. We may also choose to do some x-rays or scans if we feel they would give us a better idea of your specific orthodontic needs.
Next, you’ll meet Dr. Katie Vo! Dr. Vo will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and mouth. During this, she may also ask if you have had any problems with chewing, swallowing, or opening and closing your mouth. The information that we obtain from this exam, along with your history and the images collected, give Dr. Vo what she needs to make an initial diagnosis. She’ll also use this information to create a customized treatment plan for you!
It’s important that our patients never feel like we’re rushing them through appointments, especially the very first one. You can expect your initial visit with us to last about an hour. This gives us enough time to perform an exam, discuss your diagnosis, and address any questions or concerns you may have at this point. We’ll also walk you through:
- any oral issues you are experiencing
- if treatment is needed immediately or if waiting is recommended
- what treatment options are available to correct the problem
- an estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
- the total investment required for treatment
- any payment or financing options we have available to you

Once you’ve gone over all your options with Dr. Vo, we’ll take a look at the total investment needed for your new smile. Because every case is different and each patient responds to treatment in their own way, the total costs will vary from person to person. You’ll never have to worry about hidden fees here! Our team will outline everything included in your treatment plan and ensure you understand exactly what to expect before your treatment begins.

What comes next?
After you’ve decided on a plan with Dr. Vo, you’ll be ready to start your treatment! Depending on the type of appliance you have, follow-up visits will be every 6-8 weeks or so. During these check-ups, Dr. Vo will assess your progress and check to be sure that your teeth are moving in a healthy way. She’ll also make any necessary adjustments if you’re wearing traditional braces.
These visits are an essential part of the treatment process, so it’s important that you don’t miss them. While we do our best to schedule your appointments for a day and time that is convenient for you, we understand that there may be days when you’re running late or can’t make your appointment for some reason! If this happens, we simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible so we can reschedule your appointment for another day. This will help us keep your treatment plan on track!
